Improvement of a multi-fluid plasma model for the near-cathode region in thermal plasmas

Abstract

This paper introduces a plasma model for the near-cathode region in thermal plasmas. The model is based on a multi-fluid approach, similar to other models present in literature. However, in comparison with those models, the model presented here has at least two advantages: first, it neglects neither three body recombination nor heavy particle inertia. Second, the boundary conditions used are derived with analytic methods, by linearizing around the Saha equilibrium. Due to those advantages, the new model promises more accurate results and fewer limitations with respect to physical parameters.
