Influence of collisions on temporal and spatial damping of electrostatic electron waves in a low-pressure plasma

Several diagnostic methods in industry are based on resonance effects. A special diagnostic tool is the plasma absorption probe. In the simulation of this probe one can observe an unexpected resonance effect at a distance where the applied rf frequency of the probe is localy equal to the electron plasma frequency. This paper is intended to gain understanding of the actual effect. A kinetic theory is proposed to describe this phenomenon in the frame of a kinetic dispersion relation for weakly ionized low-pressure plasmas with elastic collisions.
